The Pyjamas Revolution

Home / The Pyjamas Revolution - April 14, 2015 , by yvettelamb

The revolution’s started; the truth is being spread

It’s all about the PJs –  they’re no longer just for bed

Perhaps for you it’s leggings, or your fluffy dressing gown

Whatever comfies float your boat, are the togs to rock the town

I’m clearing out my wardrobe – if you’re stretchy you can stay

Tight skirts – thanks for the good years – but it’s time you went away

My pyjamas never let me down, from being pregnant and beyond

They’re my multi-purpose beauty and of them I’m more than fond

So crawl and play there in your yoga pants, wipe your kid’s nose with your fleece

Be proud of your stained hoody, your tracksuit bottoms are showpiece

Don’t forget to rock your onsie anytime that you desire

We’ll keep it real in loungewear and set this style on fire

No more breathing in to skinny jeans or wishing I looked sleek

So there’s dribble on my shoulder and my boob has sprang a leak

In life this ain’t the crucial stuff so women, mums unite

Post your #notskinnyjeansselfie and join the comfort fight!

Viva La Revolution!

I’m joining How to Survive a Sleep Thief and Hold Me, Don’t Hold Me in their revolution! No more bowing to media pressure or non elasticated waistbands – pyjamas ARE the new skinny jeans – we can make it happen! Let’s take leisure wear international – it’s time for real parents to dominate the internet. Share the messsage and your #notskinnyjeansselfie on Facebook or Twitter, tell your friends, nominate ’em, celebrate the real you in all your comfortable glory* – let’s have some fun!

*Or don’t, that’s fine too of course – you can also just enjoy my silly rhyme and snap of my favourite outfit below – so long as you know the terms Yummy or Slummy Mummy are both equally a bit vile and we are all brilliant whatever we wear (or don’t wear of course #nothingagainstnaturistshere)…

My first love

You can also share your finery on How to Survive a Sleep Thief’s Facebook page if you wish, and check out some other international pyjama loving mommas over at Mummy Spits the Dummy and The Joy of Cooking (For Little Assholes).

Love it. Totally right. If you are a glamour puss and happy with that then why not lounge in your heels and ballgown! Anything goes in this revolution!

    1. Yvette Lamb says:

It’s the easiest revolution ever! But for me, the pyjama plan is the one I’m sticking to. You’ve started something great – long live stretchy bottoms!

  2. I love it, lovely poem too. Had me a bit of a giggle! I am a true PJ Queen! Where would I be without my fluffy Family Guy PJs that always seem to get snot stained from thigh-height noses, or my insanely fluffy Animal onsie?! Ray xx

  3. Yvette Lamb says:

Ha – same here with the snot stains – our legs apparently make perfect hankies! I’m a little bit jealous of your animal onesie – I need to get me one of those bad boys for my birthday!
    thank you! x

  4. I gave up on skinny jeans few months ago! I love my culottes! I need to get a selfie with mine as well =) #pocolo

  5. Louise says:

I love this idea – sorry, I haven’t yet responded to your Twitter tag – keep forgetting to take a photo while I’m slobbing around in my PJs. Love your poem – so true that our clothes are often covered in food stains and snot thanks to those little sticky fingers and grubby noses!

    1. Yvette Lamb says:

Thanks and that’s okay! I am in my PJs most of the time so it’s easier for me..! 🙂

  6. Such a funny poem!!!!
I adore my pjs and often debate if there is a time that’s too early to put them on (I think after 12pm is generally acceptable) 🙂 x

    1. Yvette Lamb says:

I would say from midday is decent. Pretty restrained really 😉 Yesterday a friend called round unannounced and caught me in my PJs at 430 PM. I felt the need to explain I had been watering the garden and got drenched by the hose, but really, it was practically bed time anyhow so more than acceptable really! x

  7. Notmyyearoff says:

OOh I do love a good pair of PJs and I’m quite partial to a Primarni set every so often 🙂

    1. Yvette Lamb says:

Me too! Can’t beat Primani – I may still wear a nighty of theirs occasionally too – even though I bought it when I was 8 MONTHS PREGNANT. But I couldn’t possibly confirm this..!

  8. Mummy Tries says:

This is absolutely brilliant. My only problem is that I don’t have any PJs. I wear three dresses on rotation day in day out instead 😉 #prose4t

    1. Yvette Lamb says:

Thank you! Dresses all work too – so long as they’re comfy, naturally! 😉

  9. Utterly brilliant words! I am SO with you – if only we could stay in our pjs all the time (although I am prone to feeling guilty when I do!) Thank you for linking to Prose for Thought x

    1. Yvette Lamb says:

Thanks Victoria! It would indeed be a great world if this was the case! Thanks for hosting #Prose4T

  10. Love this. The OH got me a new dressing gown for Mother’s Day as he said he couldn’t stand the sight of my old one anymore knowing it had been through birth, breast feeding & too many bodily function hits from Baby Girl to mention! Love my pj’s.

    1. Yvette Lamb says:

Ha, what a perfectly romantic gift – seriously! That is a partner totally understanding what real love is! I also have quite a few baby related ‘war wounds’ on my dressing gown – will have to start dropping hints for my birthday! 😉
