Letter to my husband from across the drift

I’ve heard people say they knew their partner would make a wonderful father, but the truth is I didn’t really know what sort of parent either of us would be. I guessed that you, my husband, would be funny and silly, plus you had values I admired and wanted very much to be a dad.

But as for patience, teaching, life skills and all that practical business, I had no clue. You were untested in early starts, constant screaming, a commitment to nappy changes and 7,653 ‘Why’ questions per day.

Literally have been feeling this EXACT way lately. Having two kids is really hard in many ways, and it is especially hard on a marriage. I know my husband and I still love each other, but we definitely don’t take enough time to show it. It’s hard to divide the love up between everyone. You are so not alone in this, and it was as if I was reading my own thoughts with this post. Thank you <3

I’m so sorry for such a late reply, Brooke, especially to such a nice comment. But yes, totally with you, and totally why I struggle to stay on top of everything from my marriage to my blog!! I think the first year or so is the hardest, as it is so intense with a baby. We are seeing now that we are perhaps not too far away from coming out of the wilderness, but then an illness or tiredness or whatever will bring us straight back in! Hope you all have a good weekend and get a bit of time together x
